Here is something for the old and the bold..Para watering holes from Aldershot to Singapore...all high class venues dispensing quality libations to a first class clientel.....I cannot put names to the majority of faces especialy the ones joining in my "going away do" in the Regt. Sigs bar in Hamala... it was the free beer that attracted them, also a Photo of the RSO wishing me farewell I think..he mentioned something about sex and travel! On the 185 Pln I can see Jim Soutar on there in the middle with his wrists crossed. I think that he set out to become the youngest RSM in the army but he didn't manage it. Standing at the back with his beret on is a guy whose name i think was Bond. Both Jim and he ended up in Ptl Coy with Jim as my patrol commander in 68. Bond was, I think, the coy clerk.

:D Right on there Danny, with Jim and Dickie, and Robbie I noticed Teddy Straw in the sigs platoon at Hamala bottom right with the fag hanging out of the mouth, heaps of faces I reconise but names just can't remember.

All the best

Bloody well woke up about 2:30 this morning with the name Dickie going thru' my head but couldn't think where from but of course it was Dickie Bond. Saw the photo of Ted and thought that it was him but thought that he hadn't been in at that time (I'm presuming that the photo is the pre 66 trip to the gulf?). Photo from 'Globe, the Shot 1960' ....who is the guy seated 2nd from left?? Bob ?????? Swales???? Freezing? FREEZING?? !!Come on ...your memory must be fading buddy. Pre gulf trng on Salisbury Plains winter of 65 was freezing! Norway was freezing. The desert at night could be freezing. Australia?????? You have spoiled all the images of it that I had.
Good to see you back on here buddy....look after yourself and I hope that all is well with you and yours.

Danny. The guy in the Globe is Bob Wales ex Support Co. The photo is Ted Straw shortly after joining Regt. Sigs end of !963 beginning of 1964.
Jim Soutar was best recruit 185 Plt. only after the best recruit Andy Thomson refused to board the plane for his last jump, "Quote" I've proved my point I've passed the Para selection..I'm going home now. The PJI said, "fair one" and Andy was gone. He was my best mate during the course an exceptional guy, he would have gone far in the Regt. Aussie I'm intending on visiting OZ in September...subject to cash flow! to meet up with Auld Tam Simpson ex A Coy ex 22. where is it you reside? re memory. Memory remains constant, its always there, its our ability to recall which diminishes....thats what my wife old whats her name says.

Aussie,

If you have any contact info on Ken Gibbs pass it onto me and I will pass it onto Auld Tam, he's always bitching about the lack of ex Paras and SAS in Brisbane.
