I thought that it was Ken as well but wasn't sure. He was a full screw in 66, name was Ken Roberts and he was from South or West Wales. Had been on training staff for 285 Pln in Maida and beat me over the head with a branch on top of Pen y Fan. My crime was that I wouldn't get down on my knees along with everybody else and pay homage to the Pln Sgt, Johnny 'Squeak' Holborn, who was standing on the trig point!! Needless to say I got down on my knees in the end!

Funnily enough (or not!) I think that it was Ken who broke a broom handle across my back as we were chased out of the block for the next lesson...."last one out blah, blah, blah". To be fair to Ken I think that the handle may have been cracked already..............well I bloody hope so anyway!!!!!!

Yeah he was okay was Squeaky......although you probably didn't think so when you first met him when you were a young recruit! Good to have as your Depot Pln Sgt. Nice to see that he is still on the planet. Other guys on 285 Pln staff were Johnny Dingwall and Danny O'Mahoney (RIP). Johnny came back to 2 Para for a while and then transferred over to be a chopper pilot. Guy I couldn't stand in Depot was Piggy Scott. Most guys couldn't and I think that he realised that when live rounds started whistling around his head during live firing section attacks down Advanced Brecon
However what I want to know from Robbie was whether or not that was a photo of Ken or not.....................???????

The full screw in front of Phil looks like Winterbottom. He was a re-enlistment and a very good friend of Patch Ryder. They both demobbed and re-enlisted together. They were both in mortars in 1959 - 1960.
