I've finally managed to get this photo of Phil sorted out.
It was taken one morning at Akrotiri when we did the very popular "Pre breakfast jumps" from 70Sqns Hastings , training the pilots and dispatchers...they were popular because once you'd landed you got the full RAF breakfast...not the shitty Army breakfast we normaly got at Polymedia camp.
You'll notice Phil is wearing the rare and much cherished CWWs, Cold Wet Weather boots or Cobbly Wobbly's. I wonder if they were part of the batch sequestrated from the ROAC stores depot at Episkopi? When the the Janker Wallahs from 2 Para were sent down to Episkopi on a work detail.
The stores depot was like Alladins cave, all the gear we couldn't get was being sold off to the Turkish and Greek traders, CWWs, Windproof smocks and trousers, HD Pullovers, SR 62 radio sets with spares etc etc, Sigs Sgt. Old Jim Holmes in charge of the work party said "load her up lads wer'e getting some of this kit."
The Blanket Stackers were cutting up brand new 303 rifles, Bren guns, Stens various and dumping them in Akrotiri bay....what a bloody waste.
